Transmission Mount

MAR 66 Metuchen C-4 C-Code Convt.

ON this car, the aft transmission mount/damper.  How is it detailed?
I think it is bare steel with a yellow squirt of spray paint for identification.
A picture would be appreciated.

It would be natural stamped steel with rubber coating on areas, but not usually all.  Jeff probably knows on the ID mark.

Agree with Charles - the lower section can be bare or covered by the rubber (just more rubber in the application - shown in second picture)

The upper metal section I've often seen painted semi-gloss black (arrows in the second picture)









Looking at examples and notes I think the paint mark for your year and application may be a med-light blue. Never seen an original that was not marked with a brush mark - never seen spray used

Was cleaning up my transmission crossmember and mount and found this blue marking thought it would be good to share.

The transmission mount bracket is typically bare steel.

Thanks Bob. I'm assuming though the crossmember is semi gloss black correct? The bracket holding the rubber bushing under the trans with the blue marking seems to be rusted so I'm guessing it could be cleaned up. Unfortunately I tried to get the crossmember out but with the y exhaust section in place I can not other than taking that section of the exhaust out.

The transmission mount bracket is the same thing as the crossmember. Two different descriptions of the same part.  It is bare steel not painted black.

Is this one of those situations where you can't go by the MCA judging sheet? According to the 67-68 concours sheet the transmission cross brace support which I am assuming is the same thing we are talking about is listed as semi-gloss black for Metuchen and San Jose plants and natural for Dearborn. Is that not correct? My car is a Metuchen build.

Since this thread is not year or even application (type of transmission) it depends on when the car was built - the year. For your 68 it would typically be bare fresh steel with the typical visible bluing around the welds. On 64-55 it would be semi-gloss black

Just cleaned mine up and gave it a coat of semi gloss black paint. The pic is my Transmission Cross brace and a new (well sorta, bought it a few decades ago) transmission mount. Mine is a Nov 64 Dearborn, Coupe. The only thing I saw (besides some rust and needing new correct, bolts) was a part number, right in the middle. Seems to me, eventually C4 automatics are bound to leak tranny fluid. That fluid can tear up a rubber mount and any paint that may be affected.
