67 Running Changes Main Thread - San Jose Findings
« on: August 28, 2020, 10:01:51 PM »
8/26/2020 NOTE: Screwed up and deleted old thread by mistake. Not sure if Charles can go back and rescue an old copy but that may take some time so in the meantime will try and recall all the subjects we have covered and those mentioned. Invite anyone that recalls some of the many ones we had (just the subject will help. Will add them to the list and delete (carefully this time  ::) the suggestion when added

Didn't have anything else to focus my time on I guess :( but its just what it is

-------------

So here is another Running Changes thread this time focused on 67 San Jose Mustangs. We'll follow the same post, discuss  (if need be if it belongs), add to the list, then delete the suggestion to keep the thread compact and up to date as much as possible.  So post what you understand was affected by running changes and I'll keep an ongoing list here in the first post. Some of these will likely match other plants fairly close and some items will list the dates from the TSB and other supporting documents also as we have elsewhere.  From there we'll collect data, assemble the first report and see how it works.

To keep the thread from getting too long or out of hand please don't post that you found this version or that on car 7F02C2345xx (for example). We can save that for the research period and for the individual change threads. Just trying to identify the features during this first effort. Will break out the findings by plant of course.  Hope we can work through other plants also

C8 302 block with 289 internals

Also, was there ever an early battery heat shield (the kind that has a hole for the posts) ever used in production?

Any idea or data points to help suggest when those went into production and at which engine plant?

Yes and no based on pictures. I know of no documentation that they were ever used/installed at one of the three plants that built Mustangs. Only example I have is from a Fairlane from a road test and those were typically production vehicles not prototypes like ones used sometimes in advertising

Bob Mannel's Small Block book, page 7-4, paragraph 7A2, states the C8OE-6016-A began being used at the Cleveland plant as early as May, 1967.

On a seperate note, I found information in the 67 Ford Mustang Shop Service Manual as well as Mannel's book, that change level L15, 289 Thermactor 289's with auto trans., have higher lift camshaft specs. I'll try and find more reference information and update my findings. (Mannel's page 7-7, paragraph 7B4)

I have no other data to offer at this time excepting internet clammer.
