Space Saver for 69 Shelby
« on: August 21, 2020, 03:15:40 PM »
Did all the space saver wheels /tire, for 69 GT 500, have some type of Ford logo? for the life of me I can't find any type of Ford logo on the wheel at all? Does anyone ahve a picture or pictures of an original space saver wheel and tire?

Pictures from other threads here on the site and some ones I had not posted yet

Here are some close-ups of one

On this one (upper left) you can see the date, maker mark and the oval on the center section of the wheel used

The Chrysler pentagram stamped into the metal intermixed with the other stamps would be a big clue  ;). That size tire is a odd ball and probably for a full size car. You should be looking for 7.35 X14 used on 69 /70 shelby and 69 Boss 302.

Hard to find the 7.35 X 14 as the market price reflects. Harder yet to find them unused. They typically sell in 500-1000.00 range. By comparison excellent 7.75 X14 used in Boss 429 typically sell for 2000.00+.   F 78X14 which was used on 70 Boss 302 71,2,3,Pantera and other cars of the era are significantly easier to find.  I will not elaborate here but you can PM me for alternatives.

What was the width of the space saver wheel, 5.5 or 6? Have an option for a space saver tire but need to make sure I am buying the correct wheel?

Hi all, I have recently purchased a 69 Shelby GT500 with a build date of 25 April 1969. When I got it there was no spare wheel in the trunk. I am just after what space saver the 69 Shelby had. I am assuming it was the same as the Mach 1s but not sure. Can someone please advise what the tire on the space saver should be.

Thanks
Mark

The posted Coralsnake link gives the size story. The Mach I typically did not come with a space saver spare only as a rare requested option. This is because a full size 14" spare which was standard on Mach I would readily fit in the trunk. 69/70 Shelby's and Boss cars all had 15" wheels and the resulting matching spare E70X15 on early cars would not fit without extreme persuasion .The later F 60 15 tire would not fit inflated even with extreme persuasion.

You will find that it also matches the 69 Boss 302 spare
