5R02C clutch pedal goes to floor
« on: August 07, 2020, 03:19:24 PM »
Hello, I converted my 1965 289 coupe to a 4 speed toploader from a C4. I used all OEM & NOS pieces to perform the swap. I bought a "newly pre-built/restored" clutch & brake pedal assembly that was pre-loaded with the correct HD spring, painted, with all new bushings. OEM Z-bar and all new bushings and felts, all greased. I have the long fork spring attached on the shock tower and fork, just as in the Ford manuals All new Ford clutch and TO bearing. Car runs and shifts great, no issues... Sometimes when I push the clutch pedal all the way to the toe panel and kind of "leave it there" (like at a stoplight) ... it doesn't come back up!-- Really scared me once while waiting at a light... My car doesn't have the "extra spring on the Z-bar" like the 66's have. What am I missing... it was an otherwise perfect swap.. very happy.. except for this. Thx DCN, Maryland.

I am having the same issue. I think the changes in 66 where a product improvement to help with that problem.  Did you get yours fixed?

I don't think the lack of a spring on the Z bar is the cause of the problem. I have had the same problem with the 66 style with the upper spring too. The way I solved the problem was replacing the clutch and pressure plate which seemed to be the source of the problem . Just sharing that I had similar symptoms and what I did to make them go away. You are on your own as far as determining what exactly on the pressure plate is to blame.  I never researched it further and hate to speculate on a further cause. I got tired of slipping my foot under the pedal to pull it back up.
