For that kind of cabbage Id expect a LOT more attention to detail. Unique Mustang with documented history though.

Interesting story of a modified fastback altered by a guy that worked in the styling center. Wonder why he didn't wait and get a 66. Other than grill doesn't look like much was out of the ordinary. Almost all of the items listed on the first owners letter were regular items included with the car as ordered. Think he could have chosen his words better "I ordered the subject car with the high performance engine and handling package and the following special equipment:" since allot of those items are standard equipment with the car or packages. Sure he owned many Ford vehicles and almost thirty years later things can get confused and since Ford does not have any documentation of the car it was all from memory.

Cool that the guy was part of the group that designed the fastback body style 2-4 years before he bought the car. Apparently very happy with his design.

Isn't the design timeline off?  I thought the Mustang basic style was approved circa 1963 for production, and the fastback wasn't available in the first production run, only when the true 65 (not 64.5) models came out.  1961-1962 seems to be a bit too early for being the design of the fastback.  Fairlane, Falcon, Mustang Design Studio in 1961-1962?

Think we can rack the dates up to memory. Another is the mention of the "1966 Fairlane door handles" Believe he's referring to the deluxe/pony interior door handles that were standard with the 65 interior if ordered which this car was

Think I have styling pictures and those would be dated but they would have been taken later in the project

With all of the money invested, you would think that the "o" in Ford on the hood would be straight. Nice piece of history though.
