67 windshield pillar pad

Were the basic part numbers 03598 and 03599 ("A" pillar pads) used through the full 1967 model year?   I know this in the 67 area, but if they were used on all 67's, did they start out in 68's and then get dropped as a running change?

Yes they were used on 68's till some time in January. They were deleted as a post strike cost saving move. IMHO there was not the same cut off date in all three assembly plants.

Both my cars are SJ....my very early 67 has them and my 3rd week of dec 67 68 has them as well as the knee pad....

Not all 67s have them.  I had a 67 fastback without them. It had a painted post with a trim band with screws. I will try and find the vin and post it to give an idea of sequence

It has been my experience all 1968s have them at the start of production. They disappear in February of 1968.

The “knee pad” seems to disappear ay the end of 1967 calendar year.

That is my experience as well.  I was contacted by someone that has the same thing as what 1967FEGT posted in post#3, and I'm working on getting the car details.  Unless it turns out to be the same car there are at least two that don't fit the mold.

Here is a Ford sales addendum. It mentions the discontinued pillar pads and knee pad. Also mentioned was a  date of 1-1-68. Possibly the pillar pads continued in to January- February because the steel pillars were predrilled or the orders for the car were taken before the changes had taken affect.

A 67 not having the pillar pads is unusual.  It would be interesting to see further documentation. I wonder if a PO could have removed them, also did it have the knee crash pad?

Marty, I agree it would be very unusual.  I'm trying to get all of the info I can.  The initial report is that the A pillars are painted with no holes for mounting a pad.  Sounds similar to what 1967FEGT reported on a car that he used to own - so he might not have any pictures of it.

As usual VINs, build dates and factories (ID, when and where) is always a good place to start ;)

Maybe another running change item. And another run through the picture files for me  ::)

It is the same as used on 68s.
