I'm rebuilding a 1964 1/2, 260 2V with a C4 automatic transmission. The dampener is needing to be replaced and I can't seem to find a crank dampener (Harmonic balancer) for a 260, only 289s. If the rods and crank are the same between the 260 & 289, are the 28 Oz. 260 and 289 dampeners interchangeable (besides the 3 or 4 bolt difference)? Will the timing marks be in the same place on both balancers?

you did not tell us that fact in the original post. do a search here for rebuilders. they also sell outright. btw please turn off the caps in the post titles.

And they are dated to your car if the engine is original

Guess I would start with Ebay, the Falcon and Fairlane sites and related business's that cover that year. "A bigger and wider net catches more fish"

So, back to my original question.  I have an aftermarket one for now but, it is for a 289.  Are they interchangeable?  Are the timing marks the same so I can time and tune the engine?  I will start the hunt for an original but am wanting to tune the engine before I put the front clip back on the car.

According to Mannel's book. C4OE-A1 (C4OE-6316-A) Should be for 1964 260 engines.

So, to answer my own question.  I got the car timed and was thinking, if the cranks and rods are the same across the 260/289, then, TDC is TDC no matter which engine.  So this tells me the dampers are the same.

Well yes and no. The correct balancer is specific to the ‘65 260. Any balancer from a 64- 69 289 or 302 will fit and work.

The balancers used on the various 260, 289 and 302 applications from 1964 - 69 all share the same pulley mounting capabilities and imbalance properties. Visually they differ greatly. Some are heavier and some are lighter. There is only one correct balancer for your application but there are many that will function just fine. There are many reproductions that would work so long as you don't care about authenticity.
