Bloddy turn signals
« on: July 18, 2020, 12:10:24 AM »
Thanks in advance for ANY input :)

OK so I have already spent hours reading through online threads re: Turn signals not working and flashers do. Tried a ton of things but I still having the issue.

This is where I am:

Emergency flashers work. Turn signals do not.

I have replaced the fuse, in column turn signal switch, and flasher units. I even switch the turn signal flasher units and the emergency flashers unit and the flashers still work but turn signals not. Also I have confirmed that my bulbs are all good in the dash and on all four external corners or the car.

Brake lights work. Lights work. Dash lights work.Emergency flashers work fine and stay on and don't flash when the brake peddle is used.

I have tested voltage going through the turn signal flasher connector when the turn signals are clicked right to left. I also hooked up the turn signal flasher unit in line with the voltage meter and the turn signal connector and 12V is going through that test circuit although I would have through the volt meter would have flashed on and off with the flasher unit inline but it stayed at 12V constant.

So currently stumped :)

Any help will be appreciated.

Stephen

What type of bulbs are you using?

Is this a Mustang?

Which turn signal flasher are you using?

Can we check to make sure you repinned the turn signal switch correctly?

Yes she is a Mustang. Bulbs are 1157 and both flashers are 552 and new. The turn signal switch was pinned correctly as the turn signal have been working.

One thing I should have mentioned in my original post is that this was an intermittent issue that appeared now and then after the instrument panel was removed then reinstalled. I have removed it quite a few times of late replacing items like gauges, bulbs, instrument voltage regulator, wiper switch. With that all said, the turn signals stopped working after a recent reinstall. Sorry should have added that in my first post.

Also I have checked all of the panels connectors and wires and everything appears OK. Im thinking maybe a ground issue on the turn signal circuit?

Also when I did a voltage check on the turn signal flasher and its connector, 12V was appearing in the meter when the turn signal switch was clicked right to left. When centered at off, no voltage showed. Now with the flasher in that circuit should the volt meter have flashed on and off thus showing 12V, zero, 12V, etc etc?

It sounds more like ground at this point. There is one on the main harness behind the cluster and another on the tailight harness by the filler pipe. Make sure they are clean, clear of paint and tight.

Also make sure the front fender light bulbs are the correct 1178A and everything is hooked up. I have found incorrect bulbs or disconnected wiring is a common cause of the issues.
