First thing, and maybe part of your problem, is that you need to get the Code correct. It is "AR60 1988", not ARGO 1988. Next, you will note that it is "AR", which stands for Lacquer paint. I believe that Ford used the Lacquer, not rubbed out or polished, so it would stand out from the glossy Acrylic Enamel finish that the cars were painted. As it is very hard to find someone that still does lacquer, you will probably have to settle for Acrylic Enamel. I gave my paint jobber the Ford Code,m and he mixed it right up. He then sold me a small can of dull coat to mix with it to remove the gloss.
If you don't want to go that route. SEM makes a spray paint that is very close to the original, just not quite as much metallic in it, and a little darker (SEM Dark Titanium Metallic, Part # 39263).
I have attached a couple of pictures showing the two colors. Note that on the sample based on the Ford Code, I just brushed it on, not wanting to mix and waste my high dollar pint of original.
Hope this helps.
