Still having trouble with stalling on my 67 289
« on: June 17, 2020, 08:11:46 PM »
I went through and adjusted all the rocker arms.

Installed all these new items:
-NGK plugs (gapped at .035").
-new Denso plug wires.
-Pertronix distributor kit.
-new distributor cap.
-new rotor button.
-New Motorcraft Electronic Voltage Regulator.

And had Drew Pojedinec, a very well-known carburetor rebuilder on the SAAC forum to rebuild my carburetor.
I set the timing to 8* BTDC (Factory is 6*).

The motor runs great.  Responds Great when the accelerator is punched.

BUT.......

When I shift it into gear, the car stalls >:( >:(

What do I need to look for? I am no motor expert and any help is deeply appreciated.

If it’s and automatic, the idle needs to be set in drive.

The torque converter and camshaft and rear axle gearing need to be suited to one another or "matched" If for example an aftermarket camshaft has been installed it affects a lot of different things. One of those things is the ability to idle in gear with the car stopped. Another is the amount of initial advance needed.

What camshaft is in the engine?

What torque converter?

Everything is stock original or stock rebuilt.  From motor to rearend.

I am running a Holley 2V and I think I may have found the problem in my spacer plate. Also the bottom gasket between the spacer and manifold was gas soaked. (See red arrows and circles). I have no idea where the red on the gasket came from. Must’ve bled through. Beats me.

Looks badly corroded on the bottom. Maybe causing a vacuum leak(s).
