72 Leaf Spring Markings
« on: January 06, 2011, 10:18:55 AM »
Trying to determine if I still have the original springs on the car.  They have the paint stripes near the front eye bolt mounting.  Car is a December 71 Dearborn, mach 1.  I noticed these numbers on the spring while cleaning them up last night.  Is anyone familiar with these numbers.  What also made me wonder is the springs were marked 1 of 2 and 2 of 2, making me believe they may have been ordered and replaced.  Any Advice?

Have only seen the stenciled numbers on the leaf springs on service replacements. Typically on the shelf they had the identification marks applied then a coat of black paint to protect them and finally a stenciled part number for identification. Sounds like the areas where multiple layers of paint remain and the rest (the thin layer of just the black) has been replaced by surface rust
