Topic: 65 glove box liner

Does anyone make a correct glove box liner? In the attached pics you see my old one has 3 screw holes on the bottom that are roughly equally spaced apart, and a new replacement that has one screw hole all the way to the left. This replacement does not line up with the screw holes in the dash. In speaking with a supplier they told me that all the 65's are like the new one I got. I called another supplier and they have a 66 liner that has 2 screw holes on the left side of the liner. Whats a fellow to do?

Maybe check with Va Mustang?

The holes and inserts can be moved.  Once installed that area is under the metal lip.

There are two obvious question: Who made the glove box (sometimes difficult to determine)? Where did you get/buy it?

Can't be of help with the "who makes...." question as I've not purchased a reproduction in a long time.

What to do?  Think Charles is on the best track if left with no other options. If there are only two versions, as you described, made currently, have you explored adding the holes and clips spaced like your original (assuming it lines up well) to the reproduction. Any old and extra holes will be pretty much hidden from view once installed.

Both NPD and Va Mustang show a different part number for 1965 and 1966, while CJ's, for example, show the same liner for both 1965 and 1966. Possibly something like this is the cause of your problem.

The replacement liner is made by Repops. The 2 suppliers I spoke with are NPD and VA Mustang. I think that I will go with the suggestion that Charles made and move the metal screw insert. Thanks

You may not have to worry about moving the hole location(s) on the Repop liner. They're evenly spaced with one in the middle. I have a '66 version out in the garage that I ordered a couple years ago. The '66 style has two holes in the top left and a punch-out round on the top for emergency flasher switch accommodation/install.  There's also a metal clip for the owner card inside, top right.

Difference between 65 and 66 is that '66 has a large hole and 2 small holes for the hazard lights switch mounting/wiring.

As far as I know, Only 1966 had the Metal retaining clip.....Don't know if it was used in late '65 cars....not sure...

What I do know is that the Repro Glovebox liners are excellent.  Nice stiff cardboard, Well made.  I've bought the '65 and the '66 and they are pretty darn accurate. They also have perforated areas if you need to bend them.  Only things that I had to do was remove the "Re-Pops" decal(s) from the top (which is not seen when installed anyway), and also I noticed that the Staples were stapled in reverse compared to an original glovebox....so I removed any staples and just simply reversed them...

Was used/installed on at least some at some plants or all of them based on a quick look at a couple of unrestored 65 examples I looked at quickly.

Don't believe this subject has been a focus for any of our threads so car on this site.  Since the sections are separated by year it may be easier to do one now without getting side tracked with 66 details.
