1968 Styled Steel Wheel Trim Rings
« on: June 06, 2020, 08:23:09 PM »
I have chrome styled steel wheels on my '68 with the brushed aluminum hub caps.  I do not however, have the brushed aluminum trim rings.  I think they would look better with the trim rings.  Which is correct? Or, are both ways correct and the trim rings were an option on top of the SS wheels?

Thanks

Both the chrome and argent painted styled steel wheels had a trim ring.

Some of the aftermarket reproductions have the chrome rim so you don't have to run the trim ring.  All the 14 inch factory rims had a painted rim, thus requiring the trim ring.

Not sure if anyone offers a reproduction brushed trim ring but they were original in '68. Maybe NOS ones out there.

So I never did get the trim rings for SS chrome wheels with the brushed stainless hub caps, but I want to get them now.  Seems to me the rings should be brushed stainless also.  Is this correct?  When I look on the various vendor sites they all indicate just stainless steel or polished stainless steel.  Does anyone know of a vendor that now has the brushed rings assuming that is the way to go?

Thanks

One of my original rings got dented somewhere along the line.   So, I took a new chrome trim ring and used Scotch Brite to scuff it up.  I think it actually looks a bit better than the OEM ones on my 68.
