I have a C7AF1113A Starter (Sep/66) for FE
« on: June 02, 2020, 10:23:46 AM »
I replaced my worn starter and get $40 core charge refunded if I turn in the old one.
Old one is worn (slow to crank when engine hot) and new one is great (fixed the issue).

So...  is this a valuable part for rebuilt/concours GT500 or S-Codes or should I just take the $40 and run?

Thanks!

It all depends on what ti looks like. How many times it was rebuilt and how many original parts have been replaced with parts from later starters? The condition of components like rust pits e,damge etc. Does the barrel have metal stamped numbers and letters and if so what are they? Motorcraft would be not be useful.

May instead have the ink stamping on the main body so check for that also if you can't find the stamping in the metal as Bob's described.

Show us a few pictures. The aluminum snout is one area of particular interest as are any numbers in the barrel. The end plate with the brushes. You get the idea.

Cool if it does but don't get your hopes up because if the starter has been rebuilt even once it will not have a factory ink stamp.

And as Bob mentioned possibly not even the main body was reused. These are often Frankenstein like assemblies

Thanks for the replies!

Same starter since at least 1983.  Rebuilt before? Unknown.  Car had 100K mikes when bought used.
