67 SJ rear quarter extension screw type
« on: May 23, 2020, 07:43:06 PM »
I lost track when car was repainted in 1982 - what type screw would you expect for a 67 SJ rear quarter extension, the (only) one applied from the outside, at the bottom.  Also  would this have been painted?  Thanks.

Early Dearborn example shown in the attached pic - highlighted in yellow. One of the large flat head self tapping type.  Car was repainted.

John : As I'm sure you saw, the 1967 Body Assembly shows this as 376357-S101. Of course, this does not appear in the Standard and Utility Parts Catalogs. However, in AMK's Guide to Ford Fasteners, they show it as SST, Self-Tapping, Oval Head Phillips, with a length of 3/8". As far as being SST, it may have been since it had an S101 finish, and an exterior application. Although, I have seen AMK listing SST quite a few times when the actual finish was unknown. Since S37 would be "normal" for an Exterior use Chrome Finish, it is possible that the S101 might be SST ?

To clarify, the material and finish are shown on the actual hardware drawing, 376357. AMK used that drawing in creating its "Guide To Ford Fasteners". Finish code "-S101" is defined, in general, as being documented on the drawing. You need to see the drawing. In effect, we don't know.

The AMK supplied kit uses stainless steel. I see oxidation on originals that Jeff supplied images of and on the one (and only 1) that I removed from my build was oxidized as well...if I ever stumble onto it, I will report back.

Correct/agreed they are always rough and oxidized if exposed to the elements after all those years. Not stainless
