Can anyone advise why Ford would have sprayed some blackout paint on the painted body shell in the area under the bottom rear window interior trim, where I have circled on the attached picture. My car has the Sport Deck Rear Seat option.

For the defroster black out :)   And because the painter was instructed to.

Find it on sportroofs at different plants and different production periods. Have not found a pattern yet. Practice does produce overspray or even paint runs in some examples on the back side of that panel visible from the trunk

Interesting, so this was done whether the car was getting a rear defroster or not. What I find a bit unusual is that this blackout is never mentioned when questions about blackout paint locations is asked.

Don't recall that 70 interior painting of 70's was ever addressed in any threads on this site that I recall other than the paint pattern on the doors for standard interior cars and the Dark Charcoal Metallic threads. Are you thinking of somewhere else?

Have more examples of 69's but again not all unrestored examples. Thanks for sharing the picture and your findings

Thanks Jeff, glad to share the findings, during disassembly I could not figure out what that blackout was for but did replicate it when doing the blackout paint on the car because that's the way I found it.

As mentioned if there the only visible evidence one assembled is from the trunk side. Found these two Dearborn examples in my collection

Thanks, yes I see what you mean that's pretty sloppy it almost looks like the blackout was heavily brushed in before interior assembly.
