Stone guard and front valance date code
« on: May 14, 2020, 11:27:45 AM »
Hi all...    I was wondering if OEM stone guards and front valance had date codes.  If so, are they stamped? Stenciled?   and where?    And I like If it matters, this is for a SJ built 66.

Both date stamped, format Day/Month/Plant-Shift (i.e. 1 23 D2).  Any stencils would indicate a Ford or repro replacement part.

To illustrate with a couple of extra date code locations from related parts

Bumper

Lower valance

Stone guard/Upper valance

Lower grill bar. Made up of two sheet metal panels so in this case - two dates

Jeff,

Would this be a NOS stone guard from 1979?

Ford replacement part, date format wrong.

Jeff,

Yes that is the pattern found on many of the mid to late 70's NOS sheet metal.

If you don't mind, I'd like to bring this up again.    Pictured is a 65/66 lower front valance but the date looks its from 67.    Possibly
an early service replacement?

Not sure why you would think its from 67. As its decoded in the date coding article in the library and in other threads the year code is not included in the stamping code pattern. The "7" is the month. Pattern Month - day of month - stamping plant code(not used on all years and sheet metal pieces) - shift
