Topic: Proper sticker placement 1969 Mustang Coupe

New to the forum.  I have a 1969 Coupe with vinyl roof built 11/07/68 in San Jose.  Trying to find out the correct place to put all of the stickers.  Like the jacking instruction, etc?  Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site!  Hope you find the help and information offered here helpful in your restoration focused endeavours

First hopefully you didn't purchase a "kit" of decals offered by some of the vendors.  May we ask what engine your car came with?


While waiting for that and so we can get more focused the specific period of production for you here is at least a little start ( later in the year at San Jose) I found using the search feature and " 69 stickers decals"

Since she was built for 1969 it is my understanding that it is a 351 Windsor since they did not build the Cleveland until 1970.

First I've heard of a Federal Highway sticker (I'm not a 69/70 owner)...What does it say?  Just curious.

They started to apply them during 68 production. Don't recall them being applied on any 70's

Jeff, as you know I am new to your wonderful forum as well. I am looking for some help with regard to NJ built 69 Mach 1 that has these letter stickers on fire wall. who what and why are they there. My 69 Mach probably needs them. This is a photo of what I am talking about. Letter stickers. Thank you, Keith

You probably should start a new thread because New Jersey cars would not have used those paper stickers on the cowl. Those come in the generic kits sold by the repro parts vendors. Not correct for your Metuchen built car IMHO.

Short quick answer. NJ didn't use the stickers you asked about and are shown in the picture you attached. Also the reason I didn't include them in my descriptions and pictures above 

This is one of the reasons we ask for owners to be specific when we post and a reason not to copy blindly other peoples cars or work you might see. As a side those stickers are not even correctly made for a car they were reproduced for

Jeff,  Thank you for the feedback on the NJ Mach 1. My car is not using  those lettered stickers. BTW the photo I used  is a car some one else restored and i simply used it as an example to discuss it. Apparently they did it incorrectly because it was built in NJ. How about the San Jose 69 Mach 1's. Can you give me some info on them as I have one  that also does not exhibit the lettered stickers on it's fire wall.

Firstly I removed my post since this was already a San Jose thread. Got turned around once you asked about NJ then about SJ cars 

Yes those are the ones we typically see on Dearborn cars starting in the earlier years. The ones in you pictures IMHO are poor reproductions that a visually different but I'll leave those details to a Dearborn discussion.  So that is why you likely didn't find any or the evidence of any on you San Jose 69 though I'm sure you can find some on "restored" cars on the internet or at shows.

 There have been a few San Jose cars in 69 that have been found with one small square sticker. They have so far all been from approx the same build period so it appears someone tested the idea for possibly a shift then the guys dumped the idea/practice and went back to the traditional San Jose marking that inspection and checks had been done.  In forty or so years studying these details I've seen maybe five cars and San Jose cars are the cars that are most local to me - plant is about an hour from the house -so have likely seen a bunch

Thank you for that in put. My  69 San Jose  SCJ is still entered and on hold for the Tuscon Nationals that got rescheduled for October. I am not going to worry about those stickers after what I know now. Greatly appreciated and hopefully MCA gold is in the play book.
