Had two Mustangs that had tank rust through as a result of the padding-both cvts. Ah yes, the Fl. humidity!

Jeff, What did '64-'66 cars have...Very curious.  Can you elaborate?? What was the thickness like, and what di the material look/feel like???

A quick answer so that we don't get too far off thread ;)

For a period of time it appears that Ford started out using a more dense/compact material as shown in the picture below before it changed to the multi-layer stuff

Ok, Thanks Jeff.   I actually have that first picture and I am familiar with that material.  My '70 Candian Built Ford Falcon had the same stuff in it believe it or not.  Same color material too.

So, Basically, You are saying that they used that same material on the top of the fuel tank...Gotcha.

Nope - only reporting that it was used on the interior floors under the carpet ;)

Ok, Not to get off model year for this thread... What was used on top of the tanks for '65/'66.... The thin paper paper type material.....or nothing at all??
