67 seat track plates
« on: March 30, 2020, 09:44:03 AM »
What finish are 67 seat track plates.
I used to think these were black paint but now unsure.

Also, I have 8 of them but 'me thinks' only the front 4 had them from factory.

Assy. manual doesn't even look to show them used

+1.  I also thought they were black for 67, and would like to be educated.  I got most of the fiberglass panels installed in the back yesterday...woo hoo.

There were supposed to be 4 used per seat.

How about 67 seat track plates.
Assy. manual doesn't even look show them used
The 67 (and 68) Interior Assembly Manual does not show the plates used on the seat installation pages. The 60-68 MPC "implies" the use (C5ZZ-6513190-A) from 66 on as "66/". It also indicates they are not used on bench seats. The title is "Retainer - Front Floor Mat To Seat Track".
Now, back to the real world.
Jim
Note: The plate/retainer is not listed in the 75 edition of the MPC.

The seat track plates on  65 - earlier 67  are typically black chromate . The later 67 ones that are part of the seat track are PO .

FYI Black chromate is the same process and same visual characteristics as zinc dichromate but instead of gold it is black.

That might explain why they went into the soup "black and rust" colored but came out bare steel.

Looks like extra black phosphate & oil is my only easier choice.

Now, do I use all 8? I seem to recall adding the ones into the rear location but could be wrong.

You guys will notice that I split this discussion from the other much older 65/66 discussion. ;)

First Attachment from 1960-68 MPC supports the "8" per vehicle, but only on Fastbacks.
The second Attachment, from the 19678 Only MPC, again shows Fastbacks only, but 8 per seat ??

Hmmm - something doesn't "sit right".

Not your only choice. I have some black chromate dip solution that I have yet to try out. If you send them to me already cleaned I will give them a dip N/C. Just pay for postage .PM me if interested.

My plater can do black oxide and black zinc.  Would either of those look reasonable?  I realize that term is not measurable 8)

Black zinc is another name for black chromate just like gold zinc is another name for zinc dichromate.

Do have 67 San Jose examples in the dark goldish finish like we find on some 65-66 San Jose cars. Again may be a multiple supplier issue/difference

Here is one example where with lighting you can see the goldish tint. Think the picture or a similar has been posted in the past

Like the Gold zinc that has the different rainbow hues but is predominantly gold ,the black zinc has the same effect but predominantly black.
