Topic: 68 lower windshild trim spacers

Can anyone tell me if the SJ plant was using the plastic spacers in the lower windshield trim to protect the paint on the fenders in late 1968? Marty

I know NJ was throughout the year. Haven't taken apart too many SJ 68s

My 67 San Jose convertible still had one in place on the passenger side, so it is possible that San Jose did use the plastic clips. Hard to find, but easy to install.

I have a pair off a SJ 67 coupe. I was going to put them on the SJ 67 GTA convertible. Given the difficulty in removing the windshield trim with out causing damage I was thinking of using them on the SJ 68 HCS provided that SJ was still using them in mid July 1968. Marty

Don't recall seeing them on a coupe - but could have always missed them on any of the dozens I've taken apart or the hundreds/thousands I've seen in yards.

Will keep an eye open for one

I haven't studied the detail much, but the service replacement lower windshield moldings have a slot on the ends where the plastic spacer fits into.  The original 65-66 lower windshield moldings don't have the slots.

I do not have a picture of one in the trim piece. It is easy to miss when in the trim only about 1/16th of it shows. Here is one of the pair that I have. Marty

I believe they all had them or were supposed to get them. Because of the way it just presses in most of them probably blew out first time it went through a car wash. No concern from Ford that it stayed there as after fenders were on it serves no purpose.

I know this post is old; but I took a picture today of a 1968 windshield moulding with the spacers still in place.  I've noticed on recent trips tp the local bone yard that many of the 67-68 mouldings had these spacers (a lot are missing too).  The majority with them in place had two on each side as pictured.  I also observed a 66 moulding today and noticed the "cut outs" for these spacers were not present on that particular moulding.
