1968 Wheel Color

If a 1968 Mustang came with dog dish hubcaps were the wheels body color or black ?

Typically body color, but I wouldn't hold a hard line on that.

Thank You, Charles. I know this is a conflicting subject.

There are a number of unrestored original examples in our Picture section of the site.

One example is titled - 68 T code Dearborn - Unrestored Picture Thread


Some of the misunderstanding through the years I believe came from incidents were the dealer (to make a sale) changed the dog dish out for full wheel covers and also just false claims. In the cases where the dealer changed the car all five wheel would be body color. Marti reports in that situation would confirm the type of hubcaps and in turn wheel color, the car was built for from the factory.


Wheels are painted body color only on the outer face. Back side is finished just like semi-gloss black wheels



Here is a picture of a car where the hubcap was "up graded/up sold"  by the dealer
