Hood Letters
« on: March 12, 2020, 10:34:51 PM »
Are the C4OZ hood letters used for all years ?  Thanks Brian

EDIT  These are pinned letters. The barrel nuts are in the envelopes on top of the box's.

Brian : The letters you have pictured are correct for 1965, 66 and 67 Mustang Hoods. I can't tell for sure from your pictures, but the original Service Parts should have pins on the back of each. Later issues were "stick-on.

I'm not too sure about 67's. MPC's indicate a different number

Richard : Here we go again ; another MPC "conflict". You apparently looked up under the "Hood" Section (Section 16606), and I looked up under the "Emblem" Section (40282).
Both the 1967 "Only" and 1960-68 MPC's show C7AZ-16606-A, B, C and D for the Hood Letters, and C40Z-40282-A, B, C and D also for the Hood letters ??

I guess the only way to tell for sure is to check the numbers cast into the back of the letters. Unfortunately, my originals are with my 67 in Colorado, so I can't help with that right now.

In checking the Body Assembly Manuals of both 1966 and 1967, the 1966 shows a "C5" Identification Number, while the 1967 shows a "C7" Identification Number. This seems to support the C7AZ letters for the 1967 Hood. However, the 1967 Body Assembly Drawing id dated 2/27/67. This made me think that there may have been a change before that date. I then checked my November 1, 1966 List Price Book, and the C7AZ letters are listed there. Thus, if a change did take place, it had to be before November 1, 1966. So, at this point, I would say the only way to know for sure is to check the Identification Numbers on very early Models, to see if they are "C4" or "C7".

So, Brian, in your case, I would be on the safe side and say the letters you have are for 1965-66, unless someone can verify that very early 67's used the "C4's".

Just another one of those "easy" look-up items that turns out not so easy.

Thanks for the interest and input.  Taking another look at these letter's. They are not cast with any C4 numbers.  The letter F is marked 5408 w/ M or W and 0282 A.  After market letters ?  Brian

For 1964 thru 66 the part numbers are C4OB-6240282-A for the "F" as cast in the upper left back side. This one seem to have a date code of "64 08". The Ford part number is in three rows, C4OB | 6240 | 282^A (yes, it's an up arrow). I'm not going to bother with the other letters.
My 60-68 Ford Car parts (aka MPC) shows TWO different service numbers, one for 64-66, the other for 67.
The (64)65/66 service number in section 16606 refers to group 40282.
The 67 service numbers are C7AZ-16606-A thru D - or - C4OZ-6440282-A thru D, (as a service replacement for 65/67). I think that the 65/67 in section 40282 should read 65/66. The same applies to the 75 edition of the MPC.
Yup, it's an error - or - we have two stock numbers for the same part.

So all your info is from an MPC and not from an actual letter ?  On my F letter the 0282 A would seem to verify an authentic 65 thru 67 piece ?

It's a reproduction.
