Engine wiring harness clip locations
« on: March 04, 2020, 03:47:48 PM »
Does anyone have a detailed pic of where the engine wiring harness clips go that are installed under the valve cover bolts?

Assume you're asking about a V8?

If so, they go on driver side (LH) rocker cover on the top 3 bolts.

The clips, 356640-S100, are documented in the 65 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual (page 29). If you haven't got a set of these assembly manuals, I strongly recommend you get a set. The 64-65 Chassis Manual goes with the five 65 manuals.

The clocking or orientation for some if not all are viewable in pictures of unrestored cars in that section of the site ;)

This doesn't show the clips at all but they're there along the top of the valve cover. If you clock them the right way, as Jeff mentions, they'll keep the wire(s) in a fairly fixed position and away from the intake when it heats up. I have the two on the right clocked at 12 0'clock but the one at the front (distributor) probably at around 2 o'clock to keep all thee wires where I want them. The clips are pretty flexible so I adjust with finger pressure only around the wires and pry them up just a bit as well. Overly cautious with heat to the wires I suppose...

Very much off topic, but still:Lancelot66: what in the world is the long black tube (?) that is bolted to the back of the intake manifold and runs diagonally across the valve cover?  I've never seen anything like that.

Thank you Carlite65! Yep, a brace that has been stripped and re-painted a few times over the years. Easy to hit and chip it while working on other stuff!
