Radiator Hoses
« on: March 01, 2020, 07:50:12 PM »
I replaced these hoses on my 69 428 car about 10 years ago.  Anyway to tell if they could be the originals or service replacements ?  The Autolite ID's match current Marti replacements and each has an imprinted code, in the rubber, as well.  Upper hose Autolite C8ZE-8B274-E imprinted w/AU 209 12 C.  Lower hose Autolite C9ZE-8B273-D imprinted w/AU 221 12 C.   Thanks, Brian

marti hoses
For those not aware the smooth surface no texture is a dead giveaway. Assemblymen hoses of the era had a distinct "alligator skin" type texture. It was what was considered a "undesirable effect" by the MFG's .Over the decades the hoses evolved to the smooth finish. Marti uses modern hoses as the base for restamping. I think the texture started the change to smoother in the 70's. Ed would know the time frame better.

OK. Good information.  So the ' alligator skin ' textured upper hose would be more correct for my 69.  Couple more questions; 1. Should the lower hose, C9ZE-D, be alligator/textured as well ?  The upper hose is id'ed as C8ZE-E, the older hose, and  newer Marti hose as C8WE-A ?  2. Do I assume as time progress's Marti info gets more accurate and the C8WE-A is more correct ?  Thanks, Brian

All of the assemblyline radiator hose on 65-70 Shelby's /Mustangs had the heavy texture. I will defer to Spec Ed on the appropriateness of the different engineering numbers as it relates to your application.

I understood the C9W hose to be correct.  Maybe Ed will confirm.
