Topic: 1967 Big Block Steering Column Seal?

I was driving my Shelby today and it's 77 here today. I felt that the column was warm on top and when I put my hand where the turn signal lever exits the column hot air from the engine compartment is obviously coming up the tube. I noted there was a rubber seal offered in the NPD catalog but when I disassembled my column there was nothing that plugs the end and I saw nothing in the Osborn manual to indicate there should be. The tube is open in the engine compartment it's like having a heater vent open.
Those that aren't familiar with FE cars: They are all short gear steering boxes with a rag coupler.

I had forgotten about this. The illustration looks different. I will have to buy one, split one side and tack it in the tube.

recently, I removed the steering column of my 67 big block car and noticed that the seal was missing. A closer look inside the column revealed that the seal must have been a foam type seal. I found a listing on eBay with a steering column seal that looked very close to the remains in my steering column. Part number C9AZ-3E629-A.
Finally I ended cutting a „doughnut“ out of a piece of black foam.

That is what we commonly find on used columns, too.

The foam noodles, or 3/4" insulation for pipes is what we use at the shop.

The rubber one offered has a lip from NPD. I don't think it is correct. The foam makes more sense. It picks up the heat right off the headers and it really does heat up the car to my surprise.
