67 Running Change - 289 AC Compressor Mounts and Brackets
« on: January 26, 2020, 03:05:02 PM »
It appears, after cleaning up some A/C engine parts I have, that there is an early/late group of parts for the A/C compressor mount and its ancillary brackets (on 289 cars).

196667Bob posted a Compressor Brace for sale and noted it as late after January 3, 1967.
C7AZ-2888-F (Casting # C7AA-2888-G), Front (Lateral) Compressor Brace

I have an early mount casting C7ZA-2888-C noted as being used before that date.

I'll remove the data above and get into more detail if it's agreed it's another running change.

If you look at my spreadsheet in post 17 you will find many references to the A/C change, so I agree with your conclusion. It is also discussed in the Mannel book

Split this off from the Main thread so we can collect additional information as we see where this goes. Would be nice to see some supporting findings from unrestored cars and such to see if the MPC dating is correct, close or different.

John -- I should have consulted your sheet. I went to the main thread and didn't an entry there and thought that Jeff could make an entry in the Engine section if we found enough data.

According to WCCC:
C7ZA-2888-C... cast iron lateral compressor support bracket for Cougars and Mustangs built prior to 1/3/1967 with the 289 engine. Must be used with adjusting bracket C5AA-8A619-B pulley assembly and pedestal bracket C7ZA-2882-C.

Here are some pics of the bracket/mount:

I wish to add a known variation to some items on this subject.
Thermactor vehicles used the smog pump to adjust the AC belt, this is true for both early and late examples.

So is continuing this was (all in one thread) a good idea - given all the different parts for each - or do we need a separate with and without thermactor threads?

Just asking since I've not yet looked at pictures and I don't recall if the compressor side bracket is the same for use with and without a belt tensioner
