67 AM Radio Plug
« on: January 20, 2020, 02:20:06 PM »
Anyone have a pic of the power and light plug on a 67 Mustang AM radio?
I have the speaker plug, but not the combined (?) power and light bulb plug.
I have many radios and this plug is missing on all of them!

Bill : Mine is actually at our place in Colorado, but I "borrowed" these pictures to show you. The power is the Yellow with black stripe, and the light is the "standard blue with red stripe. The key here is that the twin plug has two different sized bullet connectors. I can't measure mine right now, but I assume (?) that the smaller bullet is the "universal/GM" size bullet, and the larger is the standard Ford, larger, type. Also note that the power wire is of heavier gauge.

Hope this helps,

Bob

Thanks Bob!

I'll have to dig out the under dash harness and see where that odd ball plug goes in.
The Interior Assembly Manual makes it look like one plug on the under dash side.

I should have some fluorescent needle paint in a few days and the plastic front cleaned up nice. The radio tested ok, so we'll see. Found an NOS 68 square base [see RoyceP's post below] antenna hiding in the closet too!

Bill : I'm pretty sure that the correct plug is that which I have noted with the red arrow. Note that it has the two Blue with Red stripe wires.

Ford used a 0.187 in dia pin, GM used a 0.156in dia pin.

Just to expound on Marty's statement, yes NPD does, but it's listed under 1968-73, but will obviously work on '67.

FYI the square base C8ZZ antenna is not what Ford used in 1968. All Ford supplies antennas used on the Mustang in 1968 were round base, same as 1967.

Thanks Bob!

Good catch!
I didn't think of that when I posted.
The square base was in the C8 Ford box, but the plastic was opened.
This base may have been from my 70 B2 when I replaced its antenna but used the original base.

I should add that DeadNutsOn shows the power and radio plugs as a set, but out of stock.
NPD lists this set as WIRE, DOOR SPEAKER FEED, CONNECTS RADIO TO 13A769 [part number 19A041-1a].
Uh, ok.
The picture looks right, the description, not so much.

Bob -- I did see your reply, but I never thought to use the keywords "power feed."
It appears the link to the harness I posted works for both the speaker and power.
So now we have links to both!
Thanks.
