Gold Galvanized Finish?
« on: December 11, 2010, 10:49:09 AM »
Is there a place that does Gold Galvanized plating? It looks like the #34 Wittek Clamp is suppose to be that? Also are the samller clamps that are used for the diverter valve supposed to be the same finsih? This is for a 70 Boss 302.
Thanks, Randy

I've always used Zinc dichromate - depending on the preparation of the metal before plating and how the plating is coated and aged I could not tell the difference in the finished product.  Have never found a company that did or mentioned Gold Galvanizing and the regular galvanizing we've tried is so inconsistent

Jeff,

Do you use a home zinc-dichromate kit or send them out?

Lost my regular place but use to send them all out.

Due to rising cost and the fact that you can normally do a little or allot more for the standard price I've found that some are either doing everything in zinc dichromate (then removing the dye from certain parts) or everything in zinc and adding the gold/yellow coloring to specific parts

I've purchased some of the gold dye crystals but have not used them as of yet

Thanks Jeff, it looks like the Gold Galv. is a duller look. I have had my other clamps done in Zinc dichromate too. I'll talk to Jack Brooks and see if he knows of a way to get the duller finish using zinc dichromate.    Randy

I found that often just leaving it to the elements tend to "flatten" the look or finish. I've gone to wrapping and bagging my extra newly plated clamps for this reason. The dye/color is very weak and does not hold up well
