65 SJ Underdash Wire Harness Bracket
« on: December 08, 2019, 12:00:01 PM »
I know the bracket is located underdash but i cannot locate where. I am re-assembling and I know it supports part of the wiring harness but cannot determine where it mounts. My interior is white, and my bracket is white with a rubber covering on the hook portion. Any of my manuals that I have do not show this. Any help is appreciated.

The only one I can remember is attached to the vent, but not with the hardware you show. Convertibles use two "similar" for the top electrical stuff.
Do you have the 65 Osborn Mustang Electrical Assembly manual?

On the side of the pedal support?

It is not on my vent as the holder for my flasher is mounted there. Which side of the brake pedal support does it go? I think that it supports the harness from the steering column where it exits the column. I will look again if I am overlooking the mounting hole.

Thanks

This photo is similar to the manual but I do not have another drilled hole in my air vent. I have it out of the car and there is only the flasher bracket on the backside anď no other holes.

It goes on the bottom edge of the dash, to the left of where the parking brake handle assy attaches.  The screw goes up, nut on the back, the bracket edge is on the bottom of the dash... so it attaches screw into bracket, bracket on dash, nut on the back.

Believe this might be a San Jose detail or maybe other plants followed the same and eventually went to installing it on the fresh air vent.

The 64 Electrical Manual (AM0003, pg 13) show the bracket, 370805-S100, attached by a hex head sheet metal screw (42127-S8) to a "lip" on the upper LH dash above the fuse block used for the main under dash harness.
The 65 Electrical Manual (AM0008, pg 23) shows the same bracket attached by a pan head sheet metal screw (358735-S2) to the upper rear portion of the LH vent used for the turn signal harness up the steering column. No effective dates are visible on either page.
The lower LH edge of the dash location by the parking brake, is very possible given the hardware shown in the original post. There obviously is a build time, early 65, and plant specific, San Jose, for this application. That is stated so as to warn others to ask.

So based on Charles’ pic I went looking for mine and it would appear it was there based on the marks (first pic, honey gold). My blue fastback has it attached to the fresh air vent piece (second pic). Now I need to go poke around my friend’s shop and find one.  Charles or Jim, any idea what bolt/screw that is holding it?  Doesn't look like the one you mention in your reply Jim based on AMK.  ALmost looks like the screw/bolt that holds the corral bars to the grill

The screw looks like what attaches a 65 horizontal grille bar to the grille, except it's zinc plated, not phosphate.  The nut is like used on the tail light bucket to body.

Based on Charles observation, I determined that the screw is Ford p/n 375922-S7, and the nut is Ford p/n 359606-S8. Both are 10-24 thread. The screw is the same that is used on the 65 glove box door hinge including finish (finish -S7 only for 1965).

For what it's worth, mine was and is attached to the fresh air vent.
