Topic: emergency brake indicator light

I'm told this forum is for both Mustangs and Cougars. I have a 67 Cougar. Factory air. There is an indicator light connected to a switch on the emergency brake. But the lens or bezel is missing. Does anyone know what this looks like, or have a picture of it? Any sources for it?

If the Cougar Warning Light is the same as the Mustang, it would be as shown in the attached pictures.

I found this in the Mercury MPC.  The C7ZZ was not listed, but probably most correct for the 67.

Was this a stand alone lamp, not part of the more comprehensive convenience control option?

There were two uses, a dash mounted courtesy lamp panel, all indicators were horizontal, and a console mounted version, two on each side of the housing. As an individual lamp, I don't know. I didn't see a wiring diagram for one, but a dealer would/could do anything.

Regarding JUST THE LAMP, like the Mustang, a 67 Cougar could be found with a dash-mounted (at an angle) lamp like the one I pictured earlier (and again here) OR A CONSOLE-MOUNTED VERSION if the EARLY-67 Cougar had the Convenience Group. LATER IN 67,  an XR7 would have the upper console with map lights and it would be a standard option on an XR7. Scott or Royce can chime in on these details to confirm or add to as needed.

Since the O.P. asks about the lens or bezel "connected to a switch on the emergency brake", I would assume he is asking about the "kit" version, not the console-mounted Convenience Group or XR7 vesion. Having factory AC has nothing to do with this option on Cougars (unlike a Mustang where having factory AC changes the location of the Convenience Group location).

The C7ZZ-15A852-A Parking Brake Warning Light that I pictured was a Ford, "stand alone" Accessory. It appears in both the 1967 Only MPC, as well as in the 1960-68 MPC (copy attached. It is also shown in the November 1966 and the May 1967 Ford List Prices books for a whole $3.70.

I have also attached a copy of the Instruction Sheet that came with it (note that the IS number is different than that noted in the MPC's).

There is a 1967 and a 1968 version of the option. 1967 has a ring terminal off of the fuse to the ignition switch. 1968 has a yellow bullet plug, that goes to the 3 way accessory plug. We are unable to maintain a supply of switches to keep this item is stock. We are planning to offer segments of the light assembly for sale. Below is a picture of the two versions. This was not a real common option for a Cougar, it was available on the Standard
 (non XR7) model Cougar. Am not sure what the option was called to get this item outside of the convenience group.

Scott : Interesting. When you note "Option" are you referring to "Factory Option", or are you including "Dealer Option" ? To avoid confusion, I usually try to avoid using "option" to include "Dealer Option" as a Dealer Option is just an Accessory Installed by the Dealer. In which case, it could be installed on any Model, including the XR-7's. Of course if all XR-7's came with the Safety Convenience Package (I am not that familiar with Cougars to know that), then it would be kind of superfluous.

It is interesting that the light assemblies are shown as different on 67's and 68's (C7ZZ- and C8WB-), as the lens'; and sockets appear to be identical ; I guess just because of the ring end versus the bullet connector end, especially since the 1967 description notes it as "Lamp and Wiring" ?

I picked up one of these kits for my 67 Cougar.  I'm debating if I want to drill a hole in my dash to install it.  
Trying to make out and be clear of the dimensions it gives for mounting, and understand the two options. 
Appears one mounting position for light is if you have speed control.  The other talks about 'bulb out' location?
Any clarity?

I'm debating if I want to drill a hole in my dash to install it.  

I'm of the "school" that follows the premise to make no permanent non-stock modifications to my car. I would make a bracket and hang the light under the dash using an existing screw/bolt or an existing hole with a new screw/bolt.

I'm thinking that route also.  Mounting like the square light for seat belts on some Mustangs.  Looks like that was placed under the dash just to the left of where the console would mount up?
