Jeff,
Your Mach should have a 3.25 as the std. ratio for an M code w/ the FMX. The 3.00 is the std. ratio is for M code Mustangs other than the Mach or Mustang w/ Ram-Air that also have the FMX.

Did AC play a part in these cars like they did for rearend ratios on other applications?

Asking since that has not been included or asked for already

I think it did from what I have researched/learned, my 70 Cougar w/351c, 4 speed and A/C came stock with 3.00 open rear end ratio. I think also had to do with emissions, specially California cars (which mine is) and Ford didn't want to spin the A/C clutch at to high of a rpm also

Not 100% sure about small blocks , but (at least from 68-70) 390 and 428 cars with air all got 3:00/1 rear end ratios  (only option was Trac Loc)  The only exception I'm aware of were the 11 1970 428 4 speed AC mustangs, they had 3:25/1 rears …..

Shelbys may be another exception ….
