I have a Replacement trunk that has rust issues. Should I Fix or replace it. Rest of the car is rust free and completely media blasted and ready for paint. I tried to source a trunk locally but no such luck. I have been told by some that finding a mint original lid will be tough. Not sure if this is the case south of the border. What do the experts suggest.

Thanks

I'ld find and use an original in better shape. But that is me and I have a heavy bias about rust and its repair

This is a tough repair. If you are an expert sheetmetal fabricator this could be rescued. But, what do you consider your time worth? And are you an expert?

If you were to pay someone to fix this the labor cost could easily eclipse the cost of a replacement.

I will have to see how much it would be to fix it. My metal could fix it no problem and you would never know. I have been trying to find a trunk lid and so far the only one I could find is $1000.00. Not sure what they are so hard to come by, but it seems to be the case so far.

I agree. Just having a hard time finding one in good shape. Other than that one spot on one the rest of it is perfect. Obviously that seam was exposed inside and moisture had its way over the years.

You can always recoup some money by selling it for someone's driver, or someone who would attempt to fix it. I've seen worse for sale.  ;)

Well I have been searching high and low trying to find an original and no such luck anywhere. I am not a fan of reproduction, so I may just have to repair this one. All of the Mustang parts guys I know say that it is very hard to find a nice original 67/68 fastback trunk lid

I have herd more than one person complain about the fit and not worth the effort of reproduction 67/68 trunk lids it seems that NOS parts were at one time available as you have seen they have dried up.
