64 1/2 shock OEMs
« on: October 07, 2019, 04:01:05 PM »
Also, I know that Gabriel was an OEM to Ford at the time, represented by a "G" stamped on the shocks, but I am also seeing period shocks stamped with "Y".  Anybody know what OEM this "Y" stands for?

Thanks,

-Scott

Scott - Could you post a picture? I have few FoMoCo stamped standard Mustang shocks to compare and of course the general stamping pattern changed when they went to the AUTOLITE stamped ones.

I don't recall a large Y but maybe someone else has and a picture might jog someones memory

Thanks - those are the bell shaped fully welded (outer tube to top) version. Yes have a couple of not very clear pictures of a few examples and now with your pictures I can make out the "Y"

To me this suggests (typical practice of Henry) a second supplier for the shocks used at least during the first year or so.  Would have to find a list of suppliers from that period to see who it could be

Most of the 65-66 G shocks I've seen were for handling package, -B fronts and -C rears.  Agree with Jeff that there were different suppliers.  The C4ZF engineering number in this case is a Mustang-only application.

The B fronts you are referring to would be the C5ZF-18045-B.  The early fronts would be C4ZF-18045-E  (I'm looking for a set of these).  Both cross reference to the C5ZZ-18124-C part number.  Those G rears don't have the bell shaped top.
