Just adding to this post. I have an NOS Rotunda example, and a later NOS "Ford" example. Both have the "flat" ridge as you are describing. Would it seem that Rotunda examples , (early) , should NOT have the flattened ridge?
Of Course both mirrors are identical with the exception of the Rotunda mirror having different mold numbers under the base and the Rotunda base has a molded "Rotunda" cast as well. (see pics). The later Ford version has a different cast mold number and NO Rotunda cast, as one would assume.
