J Hooks in Trunk Area- 65 Coupe
« on: August 19, 2019, 01:15:27 PM »
I am working on finishing up the trunk area of my 65 coupe.  I understand there are one and possibly two J hooks (same as on valve cover for oil pressure sensor wire) that are used in the trunk area to retain the wire looms.  I understand one is used on the gas level sensor wire that runs along the front edge of the gas tank under the trunk mat.  What bolt does it go under?

Is there a second one used somewhere else in the trunk area/rear of car?

What's the assembly plant and scheduled build date?  There's usually a J-hook on left side on one of the quarter extension studs and then 1 or 2 used at the front gas tank mounting screws for sender lead.

Dearborn March 11, 65 is the scheduled build date.  I should know, but what are the quarter extension studs?  Thanks!!

Duh, I figured out what the rear quarter extensions are.  Unfortunately the nuts and studs holding them have a nice new coat of paint on them.  If it does call for a J hook there, is it worth it to crack the paint for a car in the Occasionally Driven Class?

An original example - drivers side extension stud

Would not worry about cracking it would not be there originally so need to clean off the paint from the sealant and all but one of the nuts to replicate what was done originally

As you can see originally not allot paint was directed typically up into those corners

Other two Charles described - forward edge of gas tank (in this example a replaced gas tanks)

I got a new stud, nut, sealer kit and am trying to figure it out.  There is a sealer disk, a flat washer and the nut/cap/seal.  Where does the flat washer go?  I am not taking the end caps off.  I am just trying to rework what is there and install the j hook.  Thanks!

I figured it out looking at an older post from Charles Turner.  I actually have the original hardware and what I bought was the AMK kit which is not correct for a 65.  I am going to reuse the original and just take a sealer disk from the kit.  I will put the j hook on top of the sealer and it will all squish together.  All good!!
