Rubber Battery Post Shield - Dec 65 SJ
« on: August 02, 2019, 06:03:32 PM »
I see the replacement rubber battery post shields are available with the 4 rivets from various vendors, but where can you get those thick staples that were used?  It looks like they are 3/8" wide versus the 1/2" wide ones used on the splash shields.  I guess I'll just fold them over from the back since I ain't got one of those staple guns that go through steel.   ;)

Car is 66 SJ convert with scheduled build date of 12/6/65.  Panel date code is 12/15.

Back around 2000, the plastic push-in pins were available.  I probably got them from CJ Pony or NPD at the time...

Measure the diameter of one of your existing staples, find a roll of safety wire the same diameter and make some. I did that for the splash shields as the staples supplied in the aftermarket rubber shields were 0.062in dia and the originals were 0.047 in dia.

Ended up getting the "Skirt Staple Kit" #T27986S from Larry's Thunderbird, perfect fit.  3/8" wide, .060 x .055 rounded rectangle shape.  Did shorten the legs a bit.
