High-jacking this thread from something I observed in the pictures. In the first picture Jeff S. posted, when I look closely, it appears the air vent bracket is on top of the E-Brake bracket where the two phillips head screws go through into the dash. In the picture of Driver's side that Fastback2013 posted it appears the E-Brake bracket is on top of the air vent bracket. Is this a case of one not being original or was it a somewhat usual anomaly to assembly line practice?

Are you referring to the bottom of the dash?

Guess your referring to the top picture in reply #2

Could look at the 67 SJ or other plant picture collection to see what we find

Yes - sorry my description was not as clear as it could have been. In the first picture in your post - "Driver Side", it appears to me that the E-Brake bracket is sandwiched between the Air Vent bracket and the underside of the dash sequence: screw head - air vent bracket - E-Brake bracket - dash.
In the "Driver Side" picture posted by Fastback2013 the order of attachment appears to be: screw head - E-Brake bracket - air vent bracket - dash.
I am at the point of doing some re-assembly in this area on my car and was interested in which is "correct" or if that detail can normally be observed in either sequence order.
Thanks for your help.

Again, I did not provide enough information to help get an accurate answer. My car is a 1967 San Jose Plant car, April build date.

Not the easiest thing to make out in a picture as only the edges are visible in many of them and not allot of people taking pictures of this area of the cars.

But looking at what I have I found cars in the 1883xx-1848xx range with the E brake bracket installed lastly/on the bottom of the stack like the ones shown below

Let me add to your frustrations, no information is provided in either the 60-68 or 75 editions of Ford Car Parts (aka - MPC) about this screw, or a specific attachment for 67 or 68 Mustangs in the electrical illustrations or the part number sections (they show 65-66 hardware only). There is no data anywhere that I can find about 374121-S2.
In every instance where a question is raised about a piece of hardware used on a Mustang, I do more research. In this particular instance, the only nearby 67 Mustang I have access to is a GT-500, and Brad won't let me near it.
All I can say is look at the 68 Electrical Manual that specifies 55927-S36 8-18 X 1/2 Pan Head screw for attachment to the dash. See if that's what you have.
Jim

FWIW : AMK's "Guide to Ford Fasteners 1955-73" shows this as a 10-24 x 1/2, Pan Head, Phillips, External SEMS, Thread Cutting Screw. This of course has a blunt tip. The one on my 67 (picture attached - you have to zoom in on it) is a pointed sheet metal screw of some type. I have on my calendar to take a picture of the underside, as well as measure mine, if I can ever get to Colorado this Summer. From the end shown, it looks more like the 55927 that you noted.

Uh, no.
On page 156 of "AMK Products Guide To Ford Fasteners, 1955-73", listed between 379202-S (8-18X3/8) and 380934-S (8-18X1/2, a drill tip), is 55927-S (8-18X1/2).

Jim : My only reference to the 55927-S was that mine looked more like that than the 374121-S (page 170 of AMK' Guide) that you noted you "couldn't find any data anywhere" about, and I was just noting that the 374121-S was listed in AMK's Guide.

Sorry if I confused you.

Bob,
I'm not confused, but I find no reference to 374121-S on page 170. As stated in reply number 13 of this thread, I have not found any reference to that part number.
Now, pictures give absolutely no reference dimensions. Direct measurement do. That's what is the issue. What is the screws body size, the threads per inch and the length are the critical factors. Secondary bits of information are head type, tip type and (heavens forbid) the finish. From those direct measurements, maybe a part number can be determined. If you are willing to remove a screw, measure it, post the information, that would go a log way to solving this.

Jim : The only thing that I can think is that you must be blind (just kidding) ; you must have an earlier Edition. On the inside, mine lists a First, Second and Third Printing, the Third being June, 1998. Obviously, that must be the one I have. Yours must be earlier ?

Copy of my page 170 is attached.

Blind? No. First edition of the AMK "Guide" -  Yes. The number is in my copy of the second edition. It looks like I'll have to get a copy of a third and do some homework. Thanks for the "kick". I owe you a beer. In fact, I'll go get one right now. I can justify the beer - it's 2:11 PM, Wednesday, 3 June 20 and the temperature outside is 95.3F. I'm located in the South San Francisco Bay (I can see Levi's Stadium from my deck.).

Jim : It's 5:15 here, and only 93° here, and says only 32% Humidity, but feels more like 82%. From my deck, I cannot see any stadium, but can see my neighbor's back yard, house and his deck, a few birds and squirrels, and watch my grass grow.

if your list of fastener numbers isn't outrageously long, I could check my Third Edition to see if the show up.
