Weird 65 Dearborn VIN and Warranty Tag??

65 convertible built at Dearborn with a 170 6 cylinder - 212840th order assigned a sequential number


Only thing I notice that is sort of odd would be that someone pressed the"C" rather than "G" when they stamped the date. Just a mistake by a worker and since these were individually stamped no idea if there was more than one car/tag done in this manner

Nothing weird, nothing strange, the VIN and date code fall in line with a July 1964 Dearborn build using the Mustang Production Guide as a source.

VIN# 5F08U212840

Car is a '64 1/2 car (1964 1/2 Convertible) with a Generator charging system.  As Jeff would say as he did above, Technically It's an Early '65 car.

"U" Code engine is a 170cid 6cyl. engine.

Pretty normal, Just an Early built car.

As others have stated, Nothing weird about it....  Just weird to you.

Sorry about the false alarm. I could not see the 5 at all and thought the first 0 was a U. So I saw was I thought was weird: FU8U212840 and thought it may have been something interesting. Sorry guys.

Nothing weird, nothing strange, the VIN and date code fall in line with a July 1964 Dearborn build using the Mustang Production Guide as a source.
Remember that Ford started the VIN sequence at 100,000, so the car was the 112840 in the order assigned sequence.
Per the Mustang production guide, the highest reported VIN was 220310 (120310 as assigned). You can also use the engine codes as a non visual guide for identifying a 64 (U, D, F) from a 65 (T, C, A) - K codes are the exception.

I still don't see a "5". Even as much as I have blown it up.  I believe the other members automatically assumed it being a "5" since they seen the engine code "U" (64.5). Because if someone sees a "5" there, they must have bionic sight ;)

Could you make a rubbing with paper and a pencil to see if becomes clearer?  Given that the letters are raised.

You can make it out at least I can. One way to improve this sort of thing is to import the picture into a program like PhotoShop  then play with the brightness and contrast. Its interesting the things you can make out with this practice. Comes in handy for stamped date codes also.   You can also use the emboss filter set really low.

Blowing things up too large makes things often more difficult to see - got to find the sweet spot.

Example what can be done in a couple of minutes playing with the settings. Better?

The vin number seems to fit.. my 64 1/2 has a projected build date of June 30th, and its serial number is 182547. I'm guessing mid to late July for that number seems about right?

My Convertible build is Aug 19th, 1964 and 265601 sequence out of Dearborn....they kicked it into high gear based on early success in sales.     Curious my Pony has like 30 features from the 1964 1/2 supposedly ended on July 31, yet another anecdotal report of a Aug 17 build being highly like the 1964 1/2.    Does have a D code 289, alternator, sliding passenger seat, but EVERYTHING else is 1964 1/2
1964 1/2 Rangoon Red/ Red Interior, White Top, 289 2V, C4 Tranny and many body parts stamped in August, latest one seen so far is Aug 24, yes, I know.

there are quite a few 64 1/2 features that ran well into 65 production some even into january. get a copy of bob fria's book on production.

As this is you first post, welcome.
Mustang production for 1965 began with VIN sequence number 250000 at the Dearborn plant. Mustang production for 1965 at the San Jose plant (located in Milpitas, CA - with code "R") began with sequence number 125000. Any VIN lower was considered a 1964 1/2 production, even though their VIN began with 5F0x- for Dearborn and 5R0x- for San Jose.
