My car is March of 66' Dearborn build. I have NOS ceramic emblems because when I both were still available I thought the ceramic were much nicer than the plastic 66 style. Now wondering if I should pick up some NOS plastic style to be more correct. Not a concours restoration but really nice driver.

Thanks, Pat

The 60-68 Ford Car Parts Manual (aka MPC) shows a transition date from ceramic GT emblems, C5ZZ-16098-D to plastic GT emblems, C6OZ-16098-B of 10/01/65. Note, the ceramic was a Mustang service part, the plastic is shown as a Fairlane service part. (Fairlane application was a 66 390 with a manual transmission only.)
Someone is going to have to pull a known original one off their car and read the numbers on the back.

Jim,
In this past thread, another member (Brian) posted the part number off of his original 1965 ceramic emblem.

Appreciate all the input. In looking at the NOS ones for sale, the 66 style came in boxes marked C6OZ. In looking at mine I much prefer the look of the ceramic with metal frame. Think I will go with those. Correct or not...

Per the 65 Mustang Body Assembly Manual (AM0006 pg 33) Ford part number C5ZB-16098-G was used. Per the 66 Mustang Body Assembly Manual (AM0011 pg30) Ford part number C5ZB-16098-H was used. There is no mention of materials or effective dates. Jim

The 60-68 MPC has a changeover date of 10/1/65 from C5ZZ-16098-D to C6OZ-16098-B.

Take the date with a grain of salt, but it is better than nothing.

The 60-68 MPC has a changeover date of 10/1/65 from C5ZZ-10698-D to C6OZ-10698-B.

For reference, it's "16098".
