Topic: small rubber drain cover

Hi   everyone   Trunk drop off drains (those small rubber drain valves on the inside facing the leaf springs  how where they install into square hole ?  sorry but never seen any in place they are all way rusted off

The drains on a 69-70 have two small "arms" or retainers designed into the drain that go into the square hole and are spread (like the fuel and brake line retainers with the "wings" to hold them into place. They can be challenging and require one had pressing the drain to the trunk drop while the arms/wings are spread. Some use a second person in the trunk to do the second part of the tasks or they can be spread by squeezing together the ends on the outside/under side of the car. Some may add a daub of hidden glue to keep them in place   

Drain (slightly torn on the leading bottom edge) with the "wings" highlighted and both squeezed inward to one another after installation.

Here's a repro on Jack's site.
I'd never noticed or heard of the supplier differences in this part depending on the where the car was built before I saw this catalog listing.
I've seen one of them NOS, but no idea which version it was.
Hard enough to find two, but now there are versions that have to be matched up too.

Thought about mentioning but since he is building a NJ 69 choose not to. But your posting will bring the subject to light - not sure if all San Jose cars received them but would not question them if I saw a pair on a San Jose car. Just need to check that one extra detail on unrestored cars in the future. Don't show up well in pictures

Special Ed (Ed Meyer) did the research on this one I believe. He also provided samples to use so it could be made available. Atta boy Spec Ed.
