My experience with the ECJ -9601-C2 Elements is there were at minimum 4 versions . The 63 to early 65 were orange in color with round holes in the wire mesh. The Maroon rubber version was used 65-67. The round holes in the wire mesh on Maroon elements were slightly smaller in diameter compared to the first version. The 3rd version is orange like the first with the more common smaller holes in wire mesh. The first 3 have manila paper and the FoMoCo logo stenciled on the paper element like Dan indicated. 1966-1967circa . The 4th version of the  ECJ-9601-C2 Is similar to the 3rd , however the ECJ-9601-C2 Identification is no longer stenciled on the paper. The engineering number is now molded in the top and bottom of the element.Circa 67-up. I will try to post pictures of each tomorrow. Dan's research is outstanding as always. I bought my first 1970 Boss 302 from Dan Case in 1980 thru Jim Wicks.

I have several period aftermarket filters made by Bowes, Fram, AC, and Wix. Some are maroon and some orange, the Wix is a little weird in one side is maroon, the other sid black. IIRC the application on the box is early Avanti but otherwise the dimensions are identical to the HiPo.

The Fram and AC are a little smaller diameter and do not fill out the air cleaner as well as the others. I assume those are a little later vintage?

Start with a no nipple base, single or double bump in base.

My base has a nipple and weighs 672 grams or 23.7 ounces. Also because it wasn’t included in the SAAC post, I measured the opening and mine is 5.113”

While I had the scale out, the lid on the later version weighs 694 grams or 24.5 ounces. Also some dimensions which are always incorrect in repos I’ve seen.

Thanks for the effort at measuring the early version of the lid. Would encourage others to do the same if possible to confirm and document the details with multiple examples.

The base you weighted I'm guessing was one without any nipple formed or attached to it.

The base I weighed does have a nipple. I also found a pic of the very light 5A stamp found when I took it down to bare metal.

Style: This base is not correct for a 67; found on car.
Oz: 20.305

FYI the 67 GT350 typically used 2 bases. The no nipple base is out of the ordinary on a 67 GT350. The one with a large nipple is for thermactor cars on 67 GT350's and another with a small 1/8 nipple that was rubber plugged and typically used on all other non thermactor 67 GT350's . The one with the large nipple is refereed to as the the closed emission base and the other with the tiny nipple the open emission base . The no nipple base in this case works the same but just not typical on 67 GT350.

Is the lid the early version that started the discussion or the later flat version just in case there is a different in weight or other things.

The base is a whole 'nother thing but we'll see how it measures up

Oops. I forget to include the style of lid (later flat) and type of base (unknown; not correct for 67 Shelby).

Bob has warned me before I need the small nipple with plug. I should have mentioned that, so I went back and updated by post.

The lid I weighed and measured in the pictures is the later version. I have also edited the post for clarification
