69 Dearborn - 250ci marks and decals
« on: June 12, 2019, 03:39:28 PM »
Of course I have no clue as to the markings and decals on my 250ci.  Does anyone have the crayon / paint markings for this engine ?  I have the decals pertaining to the idle and such but no others on the engine.  1969 Mustang November 1968 Dearborn built.  I do have the metal tag however.  Thanks

I checked what I have on file and I don't have any nice clean examples showing any writing/marks applied to the engine as we've seen on 68's for example. Typical stickers would be the air cleaner CU and AUTOLITE service stickers as well as emission sticker on the drivers side of the valve cover towards the front (have pictures of a number of those and you would also have the engine ID sticker but no pictures to tell us where it was originally applied. 68 they applied it to the front face of the valve cover while earlier cars (65-6) had it on the timing cover

recall an illustrations or picture of a 69 6 cylinder in some Ford advertisement but since it was used in that way no telling if it represented what was really installed in production cars

Thank you Jeff.   I could not find a 250ci engine i.d. sticker anywhere or even know the i.d. number.   I have most all other decals but do not know if there were and where they were of any markings done with a crayon or some other type of marking tool.  Thanks

Sorry dont' have many pictures of the L code cars in 68-70 even and the ones I have were not well cared for

For reference 9F1917xx . Can't explain why some worker applied the service specification sticker to the drivers side shock tower. Maybe a fill in guy

I could not find a 250ci engine i.d. sticker anywhere or even know the i.d. number.

So you don't even have the aluminum engine ID tag either :(

If you look up Section 60 in the MPC you can find the engine code for the two tags.

Unfortunately the later MPC only narrow the possibilities of 45, 46, 47, 48 or 50 and it does not decode them any further by year and transmission  from what I can figure at the moment. If someone had a 69 or 70 version it would likely show and narrow down the choices and indicate the right match for your application

If you can figure out the correct code then you can get a paper engine ID sticker made up custom since they are not available commercially

Thanks Jeff,  I do have the aluminum engine tag.  However I do not know what an MPC # is.  I can check the  engine ID tag again.   Thanks

Sorry I didn't explain what MPC is. There is a thread covering abbreviations commonly used here if anyone needs a decoder ring  ::) They can be found in the FAQs at the top of each section (by year) 1st Generation 1964 1/2 - 1973 - Questions & general discussions that apply to a specific year or by searching using the word "abbreviations"

If you have the aluminum ID tag you have much of the answer you need. From there contact me through PM or email and we can work on the next step together
