68 Package Tray Color
« on: September 14, 2009, 03:19:16 PM »
What color was the package tray in 1968? I have a nugget gold interior, I am thinking either black or dark brown.

The package tray in a coupe would typically be a close match in color to the rear seat material and the rear interior quarter color.

Sorry for pushing this old thread but i searched a few hours and did't find any definitive answers.

I'm tying to find out what color is correct for the 66 Mustang with blue interior (22) of my friend Matthias.
The problem is: There are many different opinios out there (f.e. on VMF, other Mustang-experts). Perhaps you can help me here.
Am I right that the blue Interior 22 has a light blue package tray?
Referring to your answer, Charles, that should be correct, right?
(edit: his Mustang was produced on July 66 in San Jose)

My 66 mustang has the interior D6 (parchment with black appointments). I'm assuming that the package tray should be parchment. But i have already seen both: cars with parchment package trays and ones with black (or a adequate color depending on the appointment color).
(edit: my mustang was produced on June 66 in San Jose)

I think that you're right with your opinion, Charles - i would have done it this way if i were a Ford engineer or designer.
So am i right saying:
- all parchment interiors (code Dx and Fx) should have parchment package trays
- All Two-Tone Pony Interiors (code 6x) should have the outer color of the seats, f.e. 62 blue/white has a blue package tray, 64 emberglow/parchment should have an emberglow package tray.
?
Or is it more complicated then I thought?

Attached is a chart that illustrates how the Thunderbird Club deals with the many color combinations. I'd be willing to compose a similar one for Mustangs with the help of Jeff, Charles, and the rest of the gang here. We might then post it in the Library section for all to use.
