Shelby Intake Elbow Removal

Over the years I've removed hundreds of stuck nuts, bolts. and other items.
But this one scares me a bit since the item is original and somewhat costly.

My Shelby aluminum intake has a rather stuck water elbow I want to replace:


Assume I first slather the top and bottom of the casting with Liquid Wrench or Kroil. I can get to the bottom through the thermostat housing hole.
I could also heat the surrounding area, only heating the unseen area underneath.

Any other tips?

An engine guy I respect uses heat and candle wax.

Well, I'll be dipped -- in wax!

I tried this on some very stuck upper control arms pivots using a plumber's propane torch and paraffin wax and it worked.
I then got brave and tried it on my intake.

As Edd says, "Results!"

Holy wax, batman.  The guy that told me about this laughs at all of the "high falutin" chemical concoctions when wax does the trick.

I did, however, catch a rag on fire that was protecting the UCA from the vice jaws.
I then manged to catch another rag, some kraft paper and the table on fire while doing the intake.

Fire and wax -- who knew?

TRANSLATION: I burned the garage with the car down but I saved the costly INTAKE. WIN~ ;D

How about a step by step tutorial on using the "wax system of removing steel from alloy" ?..

Using duckduckgo.com and entering "rusty bolt removal with wax", it took all of 10 seconds to find many websites, youtube included, describing this technique.

For fine, small parts that require great accuracy I use a small Benzomatic.
For larger stuff I use my trusty plumbing torch head from the same manufacturer. So much easier to move around a small torch head on a flexible hose than mess with the all in one versions. Plus, those torch heads on the can don't always turn off, do they?
That's what I used in this example. And it absolutely turns off.
If you really need heat, an oxy/acy torch is another remedy. Would not recommend on aluminum.
