NJ Fuel Tank to Filler Rubber
« on: March 13, 2019, 08:45:08 AM »
HI ALL

a topic recently came up that i thought i would put to the members and see what they think
it is related to NJ assembly plant only.

has anyone seen this type of rubber filler neck hose and clamps used on either 65 or 66 mustangs from the NJ plant......

i recently removed this from my unrestored 66 convertible and have no reason to suggest it has been changed in a previous life but a discussion with Charles Turner suggests it is not correct.

wondering if anyone has something that is confirmed as being original to there car or can advise what i might have.

look forward to your comments/thoughts

Best regards

I have seen that style hose sold over the counter by the foot (possibly by the inch) at places such as Napa Auto Parts here in the states.
Do you see anything that suggests it is OE Ford?

I am in agreement with Charles that type is not assemblyline original. It would make it easy be if it was because that rough wrapped looking texture is what most of the auto parts stores around me carry for that purpose.  I had seen a transition little by little to that type of hose in the aftermarket starting about 15 years ago. That same style wrapped texture has found its way most recently into other types of after market replacement hose like power steering, and radiator to name a few.I used to be able to go to various auto parts stores for assmblyline comparable hose like the alligator skin texture fuel filler hose or power steering return hose . Now that wrapped type is predominate.

Have seen a few of  these but not one cars that appeared to be near original in almost any way. Looks exactly like allot of industrial hose products for high pressure applications

Agree with Charles - Find something more like originally used

The clamps look correct, but believe that the Original filler hose should be all Straight Rubber, and not "Wrapped"...

I posted that picture. It is sitting at my friends shop. He still has it sitting at the front desk with a note warning people to check the condition of their hoses.

thanks for all the replys to date.
Today I did some digging through some more parts off a 66 NJ coupe parts car I purchase some time ago and found another filler neck that represents what has previously been posted.
guess my original picture of the wrapped version may indeed be a non ford replacement example.

For others viewing the thread, there are a number of other threads show originals also.

Unrestored picture threads like - Late 66 San Jose- Unrestored Picture Thread for example

In addition there are threads such as

http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=6007.msg35045#msg35045

I used the words "filler hose" in the search feature

FYI, some years ago, I found the correct diameter and texture hose: NAPA 1055, however, it doesn't have the white stripe. It comes in 3 ft. lengths and, over the years I've shared proper lengths with friends.  Current production may not have the same texture but I just saw a length on eBay that did.  It's far better than the current crop of re-pop hose being sold.

Here I have 2 fuel hoses.  One is a reproduction from like early 2000s and the NOS hose is from the 70s
