67 firewall pad christmas tree style retainer
« on: November 07, 2010, 10:04:37 AM »
Here is a picture of some original 67 SJ Dec 1966 firewall pad christmas tree style retainers.  They have a dark phosphate finish and have two rows with 6 "teeth" each row.  Overall length 1-3/8". Does anyone have a source?  A previous post showed a zinc plated retainer with what appeared to be 4 teeth.  Thanks, John

You might try "Dearborn Classics" I saw it in one of there big car catalogs a reference with a picture that like it. I haven't ordered any. I hope this helps. Let us all know what you find out. If your looking there are probably ten others that are also that didn't write. Bob

John;

Try www.restorationspecialties.com They have a bunch of hardware.  If not, I may have a few.  How many do you need?

Thanks for the replies thus far.  I've done a little more homework:

1. Restoration Specialities - looked through the online catalog and could not find any
2. AMK - looked through the online catalog (page 237 and more!) and could not find any.  The good news is that I found some answers to some other questions  ::)
3. Dearborn Classics - part #ICPC100  has only 4 teeth per row, not 6 like the original.  Also is painted black, not phosphated.
4. Compared also to a previous post here (Feb 20) showing a 4 tooth model (like Dearborn Classics) but is in a bright zinc plated finish.  Use "Dennis Carpenter" as the key words for searching to come up with one hit.

I would say at this point that, like the case is quite often, there is no great substitute for original parts.

Here are the ones available from Carpenter that we have:

http://www.virginiaclassicmustang.com/65-67-ORIGINAL-STYLE-METAL-FIREWALL-MAT-CLIPS-SET-OF-7-P10382.aspx

I've seen a few different versions of the firewall clips from '64 production to '67, but as mentioned, I don't believe any were originally zinc plated.

I agree with Brant and have observed a transition time between the two styles somewhere in 66 it seems (middle maybe?)to the latter part of 67 production when they were changed to the rubber style. All 67 Shelby's had the metal clips. The difference lies in the teeth part of the clip, the head is the same . You can only see it from the engine side of the firewall and it is difficult to distinguish between one style and the other. I will try and dig through my clips to show the difference . Bob

In THIS book, on page 237, Top right, "Push Type" "Type 3" http://www.amkproducts.com/Ford_fastener_book.asp
1 9/32" long, 3/4" dia head, 1/4" dia shank, appears to have 6 teeth, 180 degrees around the perimeter.
Apears to NOT be chrome but the pic is black & white, so it could be black or any non-gloss dark color.

PART NUMBER in this book, 377347-S.

1966 Osborne Book calls out (7 each)    "A -(377347-S2) CLIP"
