Had a request for the following information and thought I should share the comments through a public thread so that other might benefit now and in the future
The question specifically was about a 69 M Code with automatic application and in particular a Dearborn built car.
- Firstly this detail, plus many others is not car assembly plant specific since they were done at the engine plant before they were shipped to the individual car assembly plants around the country. What is important is to look at when the engine was assembled for like details when doing your homework.
- The engine ID sticker showing K2111S followed by or ahead of this was a smaller C1. Have only seen those with the printing done in red for this particular application.
Since this sticker was on a roll of these on a continuous roll it depended on how much the worker puller the tape and where he tore it off. Looks like the belt roller contraptions they used had a toothed blade at the front which produced a large saw pattern (unlike a finer household tape would have) like one you would find today on package tap and as shown in another thread about reproducing these engine ID stickers.
- These ID stickers on a 69 351W were typically applied in the same location as the 302 engines that year and the year before. That location was the forward surface of the drivers side valve cover on non-Shelby's
- In addition, on the same surface you would typically find an OK yellow stamp applied before the sticker. Consider that since these engines were done at a different plant you don't want to copy an OK stamp from the FE plant. Especially considering all the different versions used there.
There are more details but we'll save those for more threads
Here are a few pictures illustrating what I've collected and seen. Hope these help
As we've mentioned before and this is a great opportunity to show an example of what digit cameras and lighting can do to change things and alter findings. Just changing the lightly and angle the ID sticker appears to be black print in this picture. Sam car with only minutes between shots
Not a great picture Appears to be the O-K version
