Thanks Jeff. It is indeed the hex style, like I currently have.
The main reason I asked is that Shelbys are notorious for doing odd things. Although the engine is a 289 HiPo, the intake and valve covers are unique.
Just to help others if they find this post I'll offer up other details concerning this part.
The Osborne Engine Assy Manual references C5AE-6A666-A or -B as an assy line part. The engine referenced is any 289.
What follows is SBF specific.
Mannel in the 1964 section 4F6-b starts describing a bunch a C4 PCV valves and states that "a service replacement PCV valve became available for all previous 1964 valves. It carried the stamped number C7AE-6A666-B."
His 1965 section notes the use of ... "C5AE-6A666. Other possible numbers include C5AE-6A666-B and C5AE-6A666-C." He then mentions the C7AE valve again as a "1967 service replacement."
His 1966 entry 6F6 notes the use of the "C6AE-6A666-B1 and C6AE-6A666-B2.
Both of these are round in circumference and not hexagonal.
There is no 1967 entry in the 7K (or other) series for the PCV. Odd.
TSBs round things out with a 7/1/64 #9B and notes that a "Jiggle pin PCV valve was C1AZ-6A666-A for 62/63 and C5ZZ-6A666-A for 1964."
This was amended (I think) in a Mercury TSB #12 12/4/67 to say "The correct PCV valve part number for all 1965/68 289 and 302 V8s was stated as C5AZ-6A666-A".
