67 hood latch and dowel finishes

I think I have read enough to say that the hood latch should be finished in phosphate & oil.  Should I remove the springs or leave the assembly intact?

I did read about short and long style latches and wanted to add the following reference information:

1. The January 67 MPC calls out C7ZZ-16700-A
2. The August 67 MPC calls out C7ZZ-16700-B for 67
3. The August 67 MPC calls out C7ZZ-16700-C for 68

So it appears that there were three versions, and perhaps the "late 67" and 68 versions are different.

On a related note, the 16921 spring - hood latch trigger is:

1. C6OZ-16921-A - coil type-curved ends for "before 4/17/67" and
2. C6OZ-16921-B - identified with yellow paint for "from 4/17/67"

The spring change affected Mustang, Fairlane, Falcon, and Thunderbird, so may not be related to a C7ZZ-16700-A to C7ZZ-16700-B transition.

Secondly, I'm looking for confirmation of the "dowel - hood latch" C7ZZ-16929-A.  The post linked below, if I read it correctly, has Bob G recommending zinc phosphate.

The 2019 MCA rules calls for the "release" and "latch" to be phosphate and oil.

To summarize, three questions:

1. Hood latch finish?
2. Refinish hood latch as a complete assy or remove the springs?

P & O to both items and I always remove and refinish the springs separately since I don't want to use high heat and affect the springs tension

Just my choices

The phosphate process uses a mix of phosphoric acid and hot water between 190F and 212F (boiling). The maximum time would be around 10 minutes. That temperature range and time will not affect temper.

In that thread the discussion was about the E brake idler arm. The hood latch and catch should be P&O.

I see that there's a bit of white paint, is that supposed to be so or not?
Is it overspray or must that (only) piece covered with body paint?

The hood was painted off the car with no attaching anything. The latch was installed either prior to the hood going on, or after the hood hinges were installed on the hood/body and adjusted. It's probably rattle can overspray you see.

Agreed - No paint on hood latch. It was not installed when the hood was painted. Likely overspray from a touch up or repair

68 Example that was handy. Sure there are a number of examples if you look in the picture section of this site with the unrestored cars
